Nettest Network Performance Monitor
nettest is a cross platform, distributed network measurement tool designed to passively monitor a users connection to the Internet. nettest monitors the network traffic that you are already doing without introducing more measurement traffic onto your link. This means that your results reflect what you normally do on the Internet and are not optimistic results to some arbitrary, well-connected testing servers. Information about each piece of data you send across your connection is aggregated and periodically reported to our servers where it is combined with the data from all the other users and graphed.
It collects information about latency, throughput, interesting TCP flags, packet reordering and more. Individual users can view their own statistics, but others are limited to aggregate views of the data, filtered by ISP and location. It uses the libtrace processing library to capture and manipulate packets directly from any network interface in your computer. Graphs of the data and the latest client releases can be found at the official website http://nettest.wand.net.nz.
nettest is open source software and this website is used to help manage work on the project, track bugs and feature requests, feel free to contribute!
nettest and libtrace are research projects from the WAND Network Research Group at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.
